The Presiding Judge of the Federal High Court sitting in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Justice Babagana Ashigar, has ordered the Nigeria Customs Service to pay ₦100million as compensation to the families of late Abdurrashed Sani killed by Customs operatives in Kebbi State.
This followed a judgment delivered on the case of unlawful killing by a Customs operative of late Abdurrashed Sani who was on his way to the farm on November 10, 2020, along Bunza-Kamba road in Fingilla village of Dandi local government area of Kebbi State.
Counsel to the deceased, Umar Aminu Kalgo said the unlawful killing of late Abdurrashed Sani, was contrary to his fundamental human right to life as enshrined in section 33 (1) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
He said while delivering his verdict, Justice Babagana Ashigar, apart from awarding the compensation, also directed the Service to issue the deceased’s family a public apology.
Kalgo said the late Sani left behind two wives, one of which was heavily pregnant and four children.
The father of the decease, Muhammadu Sani Bunzu, who filed the case demanding justice for the unlawful killing of his son, expressed satisfaction with the ruling.
