The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has launched a manhunt for the fleeing Captain of the fibre boat that had an accident on the Lagos waters on Monday, October 7th, 2024 killing 21 passengers and the loss of others.

The  fibre boat, owned by Only God Ferry  company, collided with a wooden boat at Imore, Lagos.
NIWA’s preliminary investigation revealed that the fibre boat veered off its channel due to the captain’s obstructed vision caused by the excessive load onboard.
It was also discovered that Only God Ferry failed to adhere to operational safety standards and improper navigation procedures.
As a result of these findings, NIWA promptly arrested the Manager of Only God Ferry for negligence and non-compliance with safety regulations.
Similarly, the Authority has mandated the management of the ferry company Only God Marine to produce the fleeing Captain of the ill-fated capsized boat for further interrogation and possible prosecution.

NIWA stated that it wished to ensure accountability and set a precedent for strict adherence to waterways regulations.

The Authority said its swift action demonstrates its commitment to preventing similar incidents and ensuring the safety of waterway users.
