EFCC arrests Niger politician over Customs employment scam
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has arrested one Mohammed Umar, a Bida, Niger State-based politician and businessman, for an alleged employment scam.
Operatives from the Cybercrime Section at the EFCC headquarters, Abuja arrested Umar on May 18th, 2021 following a petition from a victim whom he allegedly defrauded through a fake employment offer with the Nigeria Customs Service.
Umar allegedly requested the sum of N750, 000 from the victim to facilitate the employment.
The victim was issued an appointment letter, but upon presentation, it was discovered to be fake. The distraught victim consequently petitioned the EFCC, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The suspect’s accomplice, one Alhaji Isa Musa, is still at large.
The suspect will be charged to court when the investigation is concluded

Navy appoints new Maritime Guard Commander for NIMASA
Commodore Adoki, a principal Warfare Officer specializing in communication and intelligence, brings onboard 25 years experience in the Nigerian Navy covering training, staff and operations.
Welcoming the new MGC Commander to the Agency, the Director General, Dr Dayo Mobereola, expressed confidence in Adoki’s addition to the team, emphasising that it will further strengthen the nation’s maritime security architecture given his vast experience in the industry.
The Maritime Guard Command domiciled in NIMASA was established as part of the resolutions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Navy to assist NIMASA strengthen operational efficiency in Nigeria’s territorial waters, especially through enforcement of security, safety and other maritime regulations.
