Customs rakes in N799bn in five months
Eyewitness reporter
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated N799 billion revenue between January and May 2021.
The Public Relations Officer of the Service, Mr Joseph Attah, disclosed this on Monday while addressing newsmen in Abuja.
Attah said that the revenue was higher than what was realised in the same period in 2020, adding a positive difference of N226.1 billion.
He added this was possible due to strict implementation of all extant rules governing imports, exports, and excise in the country.
He noted that the strategic deployment of officers and automation of the processes and regulations also contributed to the feat achieved.
According to him, the increasing inclination of officers and men to put national interest above selves was also responsible for the improvement of revenue.
He said other reasons were robust stakeholders’ sensitisation, increasing level of compliance from stakeholders, and improved working relationship with the National Assembly.
Attah added that the management under the leadership of retired Col. Hameed Ali had continued to take strategic actions that would impact positively on the national economy and security.

The high point of the conversation was the recent achievement of Mrs Chinwe Ezenwa, CEO of LE LOOK Nigeria Limited, who became the first woman to export goods under the Guided Trade Initiative (GTI) of the AfCFTA to East, Central, and North African countries.
A key outcome of the meeting was the AfCFTA Secretariat’s commitment to develop a concept note outlining the way forward for the free trade area.
The Biashara Afrika, now in its second edition, has established itself as a formidable platform for engagement between African public and private actors on the effective implementation of the AfCFTA.
