NIMASA mourns victims of Kwara boat mishap, partners NIWA to shore up safety measures on waterways
“We are saddened by this unnecessary loss of lives
“The need for a robust NIMASA presence in Lokoja, which is the very hub of the nation’s inland waterways system, will enable us to extend and domesticate some of the international best practices in Safety as an IMO member country
“We are working more closely with our sister agency, NIWA, and other government organizations with which we have existing MoUs.
“As part of measures to foster marine safety in the North-Central region, we have established a soon-to-be-commissioned Lokoja Zonal Office.
“The office will be manned by some of our well-trained safety operation personnel working with our recently launched monitoring boats in the area.
“We are poised to commence safety surveillance from this new base by July fully in line with our core mandate.
“May God grant peace to the souls of our departed brothers and sisters. I am also praying to Him to grant their families the fortitude to bear this loss” Jamoh said.

Navy appoints new Maritime Guard Commander for NIMASA
Commodore Adoki, a principal Warfare Officer specializing in communication and intelligence, brings onboard 25 years experience in the Nigerian Navy covering training, staff and operations.
Welcoming the new MGC Commander to the Agency, the Director General, Dr Dayo Mobereola, expressed confidence in Adoki’s addition to the team, emphasising that it will further strengthen the nation’s maritime security architecture given his vast experience in the industry.
The Maritime Guard Command domiciled in NIMASA was established as part of the resolutions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Navy to assist NIMASA strengthen operational efficiency in Nigeria’s territorial waters, especially through enforcement of security, safety and other maritime regulations.
